Clear Lake Dermatologists Serve Patients Requiring Warts Treatment in Webster, League City, Friendswood and Houston, TX
Patients in Houston, League City, and the surrounding Bay Area who suffer from warts can call Clear Lake Dermatology for treatment. While warts are most commonly found on the hands and fingers, they can also be located on the feet, face, arms, legs, and nails. They are caused by the human papillomavirus, which can be spread by direct contact or the sharing of personal items such as towels.
Most warts are hard bumps that may appear irregular in shape. The surface of a wart is normally very rough when found on the hands and feet, but it may be smooth when located on the face, arms, or legs. Some warts appear to have a dark center because blood vessels are located in the middle of them. Warts are easily distinguishable from moles because warts are typically much lighter in color.
In most cases, warts can be easily removed with an over-the-counter medication that contains salicylic acid. This medication may not be effective on extremely large warts or those located on the bottom of the feet. In one of these instances, warts may need to be surgically removed. Our doctors can remove all types of warts in the Clear Lake Dermatology clinic.
Before removing a wart, the area will be thoroughly cleansed and dried. The patient will then be given a local anesthetic to numb the area where the wart is located. The growth will be removed by either scraping the tissue with a surgical instrument or freezing it. The exact method used to remove the wart will vary based upon its size and location. After removing the wart, small sutures are used to close the wound, which should heal on its own within a few days.
After wart removal, some patients never experience these growths again, while others will find the wart reappears in the same area a short while later. Patients can become re-infected with warts should they come in contact with the human papillomavirus at a later time.
