What Is PRP Therapy?

At Clear Lake Dermatology in League City and Webster, TX, our board-certified dermatologists are pleased to offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to rejuvenate your complexion. PRP therapy is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the aesthetic industry because of its natural method and thrilling results. The treatment uses a patient's own plasma to stimulate collagen production in their skin, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines. We can also combine PRP therapy with other innovative procedures, like microneedling. For more information about PRP therapy, please contact Clear Lake Dermatology to schedule a consultation. Our dermatologists are excited to discuss all the benefits of PRP and how it can improve your skin.

What Are the Benefits of PRP Therapy?

Some benefits linked to platelet-rich plasma therapy procedures at Clear Lake Dermatology in League City and Webster, TX may consist of the following:

  • Individualized treatment outlines
  • Activation of the body's natural healing process
  • Stimulation of elastin and collagen generation in the skin
  • More consistent, silky, and attractive skin

Am I a Candidate for PRP Therapy?

People who want to improve the tone and texture of their complexion are typically great candidates for PRP therapy. This treatment can also treat certain skin problems and signs of aging, including wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. Because PRP stimulates the production of collagen, this treatment is also a wonderful choice if you want to naturally brighten your skin. Please let us know if you have any specific skin conditions, blood disorders, or anemia so we can determine whether PRP therapy is safe for you.

What Is Our Platelet-Rich Plasma Technique?

Once comfortably seated in one of our private procedure rooms, we'll draw a small amount of blood from one of your arms and place it in a centrifuge. We generally draw about four tablespoons, or one vial, of blood. After about 15 minutes in the centrifuge, the different components of the blood will separate. Then, we'll put the platelet-rich plasma in a sterile syringe and inject it into the designated areas of your face. This last part of the procedure usually only takes about five minutes but can vary for each patient.

What Happens After PRP Therapy?

PRP therapy promotes the natural production of collagen and elastin to create tighter, younger-looking skin. Since this procedure uses your blood, the risk of adverse or allergic reactions is practically nonexistent. Following PRP therapy, you may experience a little redness near the injection sites because a small trace of red blood cells often remains in the plasma injection. Patients can use a cold compress on the injection site to reduce swelling and discomfort. We recommend getting treatments every 4 – 6 weeks to maintain your results.

PRP Therapy FAQ

How long do results from PRP therapy last?

PRP therapy has been known to last for as long as two months. The longevity of the results will vary with every patient and will depend on the area being treated. The benefit of PRP therapy is that it does not require surgery or lengthy downtime and is easier to afford.

What are the risks and complications of PRP therapy?

The side effects from PRP therapy on its own are very mild and include only prolonged swelling and bruising. When combined with microneedling, potential risks may include mild scarring, pigment changes, and delayed healing. That’s why it’s important to have microneedling done by an experienced technician who has studied the process.

Will PRP help replenish volume?

PRP therapy does not add volume to areas like your cheeks and lips. Although PRP treatments offer stunning results because they rejuvenate the appearance of the complexion and stimulate the production of elastin and collagen, PRP Therapy is not meant to increase volume. If you would like to contour areas on the face, you may add dermal fillers to your PRP treatment plan.
