What is Microdermabrasion?
When you touch your face, does your complexion feel soft and smooth or does it feel like sandpaper? If your skin feels rough and your complexion looks dull and uneven, it may be due to an accumulation of dead skin cells. At Clear Lake Dermatology in League City and Webster, TX, our board-certified dermatologists offer nonsurgical skin resurfacing with Diamond Glow® microdermabrasion. This quick and effective procedure removes the surface layer of dead skin so that your face appears brighter and healthier. This procedure works well by itself, or we can combine it with another treatment —like a chemical peel or dermal filler injection — for more dramatic reults. At your consultation, we'll create a custom treatment plan that addresses your concerns and cosmetic goals.

Microdermabrasion sessions can diminish surface-level skin blemishes, such as uneven texture, fine lines, dull skin tone, scars, sun damage, and clogged pores. The procedure is safe for patients of all skin types and tones who want clearer, healthier skin. Typically, we use these treatments on the face; however, it can also work great on your neck, chest, and hands. If you have an open wound or a chronic skin condition, such as active acne, we can't use microdermabrasion because it could damage your skin.
Our Microdermabrasion Technique
During your consultation, we'll discuss your cosmetic concerns and then determine what procedures work best for you. Once we create a personalized treatment plan, we complete microdermabrasion treatments in a private treatment room. At the beginning of your procedure, we'll ask you to relax in a treatment chair while we clean and prepare your skin. Then we'll pass the microdermabrasion handpiece along your skin to polish it and remove any dead skin cells. Although the treatment may feel odd, it usually doesn't cause any pain, so you won't require a local anesthetic or numbing cream. The microdermabrasion device is moved evenly and gently across an areas needing treatment. After the treatment, we'll clean your skin again to remove any residual debris. Finally, we'll apply a moisturizer that has UV protection and works well with your skin type.
What to Expect
After a microdermabrasion procedure, you can resume your regular activities without any necessary downtime. However, we highly recommend using sun protection and avoiding sun exposure when possible because your skin will be extra sensitive. The treated areas should feel smoother, and your tone should look brighter and more even. To extend your results, our dermatologists recommend getting microdermabrasion treatments every 4 – 6 weeks. Following the procedure, most patients notice that their skin-care products (particularly moisturizers) soak easily into their skin for more effective results.
