Clear Lake Dermatologists Serve Patients Who Want Sculptra® Treatment in League City, Webster, Houston and Friendswood, TX
Sculptra® is considered a semi-permanent dermal filler that adds volume to areas of the face that the patient might consider unattractively thin or depressed. This can be places such as the areas under the eyes, the hollows of the cheeks or the lips. As such, Sculptra® is a good substitute for fat injections. Made mostly of poly-L-lactic acid, it stimulates the body to produce its own collagen and thickens the skin.
Sculptra®, like any dermal filler, is injected through fine needles. If the patient is worried about discomfort, a topical anesthetic can be placed on the area where the injection is to be applied. A session shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to complete though this depends on how many areas need to be treated. Ideally, it takes about three sessions before the patient sees results.
After the treatment, an ice pack might be placed on the patient’s face to ease any discomfort. There might be some post-injection bruising, redness or swelling. This should go away in a couple of days or so. However, there’s no down time after a Sculptra® session, and the patient is able to resume his or her normal life right after a session. It’s recommended that the patient not engage in strenuous activity for a few days and use sunscreen if they need to go out in the sun.
Before using Sculptra®, the patient should let the doctor know of any medications they are taking during the consultation. People who are allergic to poly-L-lactic acid should refrain from the procedure. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding probably should forgo the procedure until their baby is born or after the baby’s weaned.
