What Is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is a body sculpting technique in which fat cells are targeted and destroyed by cold temperatures. The damaged fat cells are naturally eliminated by the body, leaving a more contoured appearance. CoolSculpting® has gained popularity as an alternative to liposuction, and most patients walk away from a typical procedure with few, if any, side effects.
How is CoolSculpting® Performed?
CoolSculpting® is performed with a special device that freezes fat cells within a treatment area. The treatment area is placed in the center of the device, which often results in a tugging sensation. Intense cold can also be felt on the skin during the procedure; however, most patients experience only minor discomfort. Redness, swelling and tenderness in the treatment area are common side effects that disappear after only a few hours.
A typical CoolSculpting® procedure lasts about three hours, and although some patients will require more than one treatment, results are often noticeable almost immediately.
