Heliocare™

Clear Lake Dermatologists Serve Patients Requiring Heliocare™ Treatment in Webster, League City, Friendswood and Houston, TX

Skin that is sun damaged may prematurely wrinkle, have age spots or produce broken blood vessels. Aside from using sunscreen, taking an antioxidant internally can help reduce the effects sun has on the skin and may even reverse sun damage in some cases. Heliocare™ is a supplement designed to reduce free radicals, thereby improving the appearance of the skin. Patients who live in Houston, League City, and the surrounding Bay Area can obtain Heliocare™ products at Clear Lake Dermatology.

What is Heliocare™?

Heliocare™ is derived from a tropical fern known as Polypodium leucotomos. Its antioxidant properties are gathered from the plant’s rhizomes, which are underground stems that contain root masses. These rhizomes are removed so that they can be extracted to make this supplement.

Side Effects of Heliocare™

There are relatively few side effects that can be noticed when taking Heliocare™. One of the most common is an upset stomach, and this can normally be eliminated by taking this supplement with food. The effects of Heliocare™ on an infant are not known, so pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should avoid use of this product. It may interfere with some heart medications, so be sure to speak to your doctor about any prescriptions you are currently taking.

How it’s Taken

One Heliocare™ supplement is recommended to be taken each day, preferably with meals. In some cases, doctors may recommend a patient take two of these gel caps each day if skin is especially damaged. Those who are taking Heliocare™ twice daily should take one supplement in the morning and another at night.

Heliocare™ and Skin Cancer

Some patients may elect to take Heliocare™ just before sun exposure to help them prevent sunburn. In that case, the tablet should be taken anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes before spending time outdoors. It is not completely effective at preventing sunburn, so users should still wear sunscreen whenever they are using this product. Even so, it could be an ideal supplement for those who spend a great deal of time outdoors and might even decrease their risk of developing skin cancer.

If you are concerned about the harmful effects of the sun, talk to one of our physicians at Clear Lake Dermatology in order to find out if Heliocare™ is right for you.
